Amazing Civil War identified cased pipe belonging to Captain Josiah N. Jones of Company F, 6th New Hampshire Infantry regiment. High quality pipe of laurel wood with carve bowl in shape of bearded officer wearing kepi. Underside of brown has carved name "Capt. J.N. Jones, Co. F. 6 NHV, 1862. Pipe measures 7" in length with the bowl measuring 3" in height. Pipe is housed in fitted leather covered hard case. Pipe exhibits only slight use with case exhibiting some abrasions to exterior leather and some degradation to interior silk padding. Josiah N. Jones (1835-1928) enlisted on April 16, 1861 and was mustered in as a private on April 22, 1861 in Company F, 6th Massachusetts Infantry. He was mustered out in Boston, Massachusetts on August 2, 1861. On November 30, 1861 Jones was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in Company D, 6th New Hampshire Infantry. Hew was promoted to 1st lieutenant to date from October 18, 1861 and promoted to Captain of Company F, 6th New Hampshire Infantry on August 4, 1862. He was mustered out on November 28, 1864. Jones served in many battles and appears in many incident descriptions in the regimental history of the 6th New Hampshire Infantry. He is buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence, Massachusetts.
