According to the consignor, a friend and neighbor of Dey, this was Dey's last painting and one that Dey considered his MASTERPIECE. We absolutely agree! John William "Uncle Jack" Dey, 1912 - 1978, VA. Dey's paintings tell stories some true, some imagined often with a tongue in-cheek sense of humor. Many of his paintings include animals and people he admired--and sometimes people he disliked, shown in uncomfortable positions. Dey worked as a cop for 13 years and earned the nick name "Uncle Jack" from neighborhood children. Shortly after leaving the police force, Uncle Jack started to paint.
