Guatemala, Pre Classic Kaminaljuyu (ca 250 BCE - 250 CE) pottery jar in the form of a coatimundi. Maya women raised an animal called chic (coatimundi) as a pet and often depicted the animal in their pottery. Long snout, small legs with thin tubular spout at rear - highlighted with added bitumen. 8-1/2" H.
Provenance: Ex-Private Chicago Collection, acquired before 1970.
