Description
Carved wooden male figure from the DAN peoples of Cote d'ivorie / Liberia, West Africa. A classic male LU ME figure with wonderful facial treatment and attached woven grass "dreadlocks". The Dan produce large naturalistic wooden figures called lü me, "wooden person." These are neither ancestor figures nor representations of spirits, but are intended to be portraits of living people, whose names the figures bear. The characteristics of the carved figure may correspond very closely to the features of the individual.Measures 23 inches tall, buyer pays for a 7 lb package.
Condition
loss to one foot, repair to other, heavy weathering and wear,stress fracture in back repaired by tribe with metal staples, otherwise strong and in good/fair condition.
