Description
Origin: Greek. Circa: 460 to 430 B.C. Style: Greek Warrior. Medium: Bronze. H: 17.5" by W: 11". Greek bronze warrior, wearing a helmet, havely castid, larger than life-size, unbelievably detailed with dark green and red petina. it seems to of lost its muscular body, maybe to antiquities, possibly to create weapons since bronze was a valuable metal. This bronze bust was always thought to be the Greek God (Zeus) until the discovery of the two life-size statues that were found in the sea of Riace, Sicily, in 1972. Representing soldiers with their spears and shields missing, they are very rare example of an original sculpture of this period. And it was believed to be executed by the famous Greek sculptor Polyclitus, who develeoped a break through technique that allowed sculptures to be created showing the physical potential of an athlete, something both relaxed and yet ready to move.
