Chevreul (Michel Eugene) The Laws of Contrast of Colour: and their application to the arts,
translated by John Spanton, New Edition, 17 wood-engraved plates, 1 with flap, the rest printed in colours by Edmund Evans, tissue guards, a little browned and foxed, original blue cloth, gilt, with onlaid red cloth triangles and inverted gilt triangle incorporating title surrounded by gilt starburst, rebacked preserving original gilt spine, a little rubbed, corners bumped, [Abbey Life 107; McLean VBD p.182], 8vo, 1861.

***Interesting work on the theory of colour by an industrial chemist and Director of the Gobelins Dye Works. It greatly influenced manufacturers and painters, especially Georges Seurat and the Pointillists. It was the first book in English on the subject of colour to use colour-printing..
