Autograph Letter from an unnamed estate steward to Peter Wentworth of Lillingstone Lovell, Buckinghamshire,3pp., folio, Lillingstone, 9th March 1698/9, reporting on encroachments and other territorial abuses perpetrated on his Lillingstone Lovell estates by an officer of the adjoining King's Forest of Whittlewood and offering advice on obtaining legal redress, small tear in inner margin not affecting text, folds, slightly browned, preserved in a modern cloth folding case.
***Lillingstone Lovell, Buckinghamshire, abutted the Royal Forest of Whittlewood in adjoining Northamptonshire. It had been in the possession of the Wentworth family since the fifteenth century. On the death of Sir Peter Wentworth in 1690 it passed to their kinsmen the Cresswell family who were required to adopt the Wentworth name.
