
RARE STAMPED "S.BELL & SON / STRASBURG" PRESS-MOLDE
Description
RARE STAMPED "S.BELL & SON / STRASBURG" PRESS-MOLDED UNGLAZED EARTHENWARE SEATED SPANIEL, hollow figure marked on top of head, stamped oval eyes, nostrils and mouth, solid front legs, traces of old white and red paint. Number 1586 in black grease pen under base, which was how A. H. Rice marked the catalog numbers on his collection. See lot #15 in this auction for another piece from Rice's collection with the same manner of numbering. Fourth quarter 19th century. 8 3/4" h, 6 3/4" x 4 3/8" base.
