GREAT ROAD TN/VA DECORATED LEAD-GLAZED EARTHENWARE JUG, ovoid form with incised rings and wavy line on shoulder, delicate foot, random daubed manganese decoration, incised figures under base. Probably Sullivan Co., TN. 19th century. 7 1/4" h, 4" dia base.

Note: Closely related to a larger jug (#144) in the exhibit "Slipped and Glazed: Regional American Redware", held at the Heritage Plantation of Sandwich in 1991, and illustrated in plate VI of the exhibit catalog. The referenced jug, from the Roddy and Sally Moore collection, was attributed to the Cain Pottery, Sullivan Co., TN.
