***Greaves was sent by Archbishop Laud to the Levant in 1637 to acquire Arabic and oriental books and coins, as well as to carry out astronomical observations. He visited Cairo twice where he was intrigued by the chicken hatcheries (in effect artificial incubators) and the pyramids..
