Gustave Singier (1909-1984) was born in Belgium in 1909. He moved to Paris in 1919 and spent most of his artistic career there and became a leading member of the Ecole de Paris group. He was an abstract painter and print-maker and also designed tapestries and stage sets. He was the founder of the Salon de Mai in 1949.
From 1967 to 1978 he was the head professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris.
