) Avigdor Stematsky (1908-1989) was born in Odessa in 1908. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1921. Between 1926-9 he attended the Bezalel art school in Jerusalem. In 1930 he went to Paris, where he was acquainted with the Avant-Garde movement. He returned to Israel and was wounded in the War of Independence (1948). Stematzky was one of the founders and leaders of the "New Horizon" movement together with Yoseph Zaritzki and Yehezkel Streichman. Stematsky passed away in 1989 in Israel.
