Condition/Details: Bound in blown cloth with bright gilt embossing, these antique volumes form a scarce historical account by the famous German egyptologist of the culture of that ancient land, detailing various aspects of life in Egypt from antiquity to the modern period. This work has been translated from the original German by Clara Bell and offers an introduction and notes by S. Birch, the Keeper of the Department of Oriental Antiquities in the British Museum. The work is illustrated with many engravings and in-text illustrations depicting scenes and objects from various historical periods. The volumes show light external wear, and are solidly bound with clean gilt-edged pages. The books measure approximately 12.25" x 15" and contain 327/388 pages respectively.
