Bebe Mascotte bisque doll, French, 1890-1901, trademark registered in 1890 by May Freres Cie, who later became part of the Societe Steiner, impressed MASCOTTE J, fixed brown eyes, closed mouth, pierced ears, cork pate, brown mohair wig, composition and wood jointed body whose joints are able to kneel and take all positions of the human body (sway back style of the 1890s), head has sustained clean hair-line break that has been skilfully restored, it extends from rear of head aperture across face to top of head, it has been professionally restored by Peter Strange of Oxford, this is a superb job and is virtually invisible to the naked eye, fingers and toes are chipped/rubbed, 20"/51cm.
