Description
Pair of 19th c. China pincushion dolls. 8" China shoulderhead has a black Mary Todd Lincoln hair style, blue eyes and deep shoulder plate. She is dressed in a red wool cape, brown bodice and green/brown print wool skirt. Condition: no flaws observed in china. Clothing has a great deal of age deterioration. 9.5" China shoulderhead has a black hair style similar to the likeness to the Fanny Elssler head of 1850. Blue eyes. She is dressed as possibly a Quaker lady. Gold silk bonnet and shawl, tulle insertion under shawl, brown silk dress. Condition: no flaws observed in china. Clothing has a great deal of age deterioration and a musty odor. Both of these dolls have the 1840 style wooden pegged upper arms with china lower arms. Heads appear to have been mounted on a wooden dowel/base and then heavily padded to form the pincushion. The shape of the skirt tapers in at the waist and then widens at the base to look like a full petticoat is under the clothing. Shipping: $25 plus insurance.
