SCHUYLER COLFAX, Vice President under Grant 1869-73, Representative from Indiana, Speaker of the House 1863-69, Whig activist and founder of Indiana's Republican Party.
Autograph Card Signed and Inscribed, in full: "Autograph for E.C. Jackson, Respy. Yours, Schuyler Colfax, Feb. 9, 1876", in black ink, on a 2" x 3.25" card, Choice Mint. Crisp and bold, a fine example.
Colfax (1823-1885), was implicated in the Credit Mobilier of America scandal and was ruined politically despite being completely exonerated. He was also the first officer to preside over both houses of Congress.
