AutographsCongressman McKinley Signs an 1879 Telegram Note
WILLIAM McKINLEY, Jr., Congressman and President of the United States.
June 24, 1879, Autograph Note Signed, "Wm McKinley, Jr" as a congressman, in fountain pen ink at the bottom of a delivery copy of a GPO telegram, regarding the completion of a book, 9" x 5.75" telegram affixed to an archival display sheet, 10.25" x 7.25", Very Fine. The note is produced on "Departmental Telegraph Lines... House of Representatives U.S." stationery, and it reads: "To Hon Wm McKinley, Book wont be done before Thursday. Shall I send it to you at Canton. A F Childs..." to which McKinley writes: "Yes. Is it too far along to add to it. Answer, Wm McKinley Jr". Written note has minor ink smudges, but the large, effusive signature is nice.
