Annotated 1864 LINCOLN-JOHNSON CAMPAIGN TICKET
Description
PoliticalRare-type Lincoln-Johnson Ticket, with Notations about Lincoln's Inauguration and Assassination !
1864 "Lincoln & Johnson and the Whole Union Ticket" Campaign Ticket Annotated "1865", Choice Extremely Fine.
This 7.5" x 2.5" paper ticket is printed in red and blue (on white) to promote the 1864 presidential campaign of Abraham Lincoln. After the election and even the assassination of Lincoln, the owner added some handwritten notations (in ink) to both sides. The front includes a large "1865" at the top, with "Inaugurated 4 Mar 1865 Second term, Assassinated Good Friday April. [JOHNSON] Inaugurated April 1865." The red, white and blue printed imagery features a heraldic eagle and shield. A caption drawn out of the eagle's mouth includes "Death to Traitors Vos Populi Vox." Finally, a handwritten "Union" appears between "WHOLE" and "TICKET" at the bottom. There is moderate age toning, some marginal tears and wrinkles; but is otherwise attractive and appealing. The top of the back has some notations that appear to have been made by a chemist or a pharmacist! A great, extremely rare item. Ex: EAHA Auction, Dec. 8, 2001, Lot #469, where it sold for $1,380.
