Possibly French, early 19th century, silk and paint on silk ground. Hooded nun holding book in fenced garden of palm like trees. Face is well-drawn. Old note pasted on reverse reads "French silk needlework-symbolic-fence to keep the nun from evil c. 1820". Slight imperfections. In old frame. 11"h. 9 1/2"w.
