
Order for Back Pay 1817, 2 Soldiers War of 1812

War of 1812June 17, 1817, War of 1812, Partially Printed Document, Being an Order to the State Treasurer for Back Pay of 2 Soldiers who Served in Capt. McClean's Company of Col. Hill's Regiment at Erie in 1813, Very Fine.
This well preserved, Partially Printed Document, for Military Pay during the War of 1812, measuring 7.25" x 6.75," is unusual in that two soldiers have assigned their pay to another individual. This document is signed by the Auditor General, apparently of Pennsylvania, and is directed to the State Treasurer. This document reads, in full:
"Auditor General's Office 17 June 1817 - No. 2785 - For 15 dollars 16 cents - Sir, Pay Samuel Smith, assignee of William McGlaughlin & Joseph Gee or order, fifteen dollars sixteen cents; being the amount of an accountfor their additional pay as privates in Captain McClean's company, Colonel Hill's regiment at Erie in 1813 - settled agreeably to law. [signed] Geo. Ryan, Auditor General. [To] The State Treasurer."
The docketing on the back reads: "Wm. McGlaughlin & Joseph Gee 15.16 d(ollars) - Samuel Smith, Rcd. Herein." This document was cut from its stub along the decorated left edge and has been cancelled twice with cross-shaped cuts. This document is in very nice condition, with minor chipping along the top edge.
Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
