Spine significantly chipped and worn, and hinges giving; internally sound. The title page includes the penciled inscription: "First Edition/Leo Rullman 8/14/39." The publisher's emblem on the title page indicates that this is the true first edition of Hoffmann's landmark work. The initial print run of Modern Magic was 1000 copies, which sold briskly. Innumerable editions have been published ever since.
