This Cézanne print is a 1914 heliogravure, which is the oldest process of photographic engraving. The scene portrays small houses on a hill. Judging from the title "The Red Roofs," the original painting shows houses with red roofs. His emphasis on personal expression challenged many notions of its time, although he was not widely accepted in his lifetime. He was rejected by the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, as well as the Paris Salon. His style developed from Impressionism, led the way for Post Impressionism, and influenced many new styles, particularly Cubism. Picasso referred to him as "my one and only master."
