Description
An Anglo-Indian Vizagapatam turned and carved ivory chess set, circa 1870, stained green and natural, the pieces multi crocketed and foliate carved overall, the kings 11.5cm high, the pawns 6.25cm high, (lacking two pawns) Similar and comparable sets were sold at Sotheby's London, 27th November 1980, lot 67; Christie's South Kensington, 8th March 1989, lot 3; and in the same rooms, 20th September 2000, the Allen Hofrichter Collection, lot 11.
