Mark Gonsenhauser’s Rug and Carpet Superstore is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are the oldest and largest Decorative and Oriental rug and carpet showroom in the Hampton Roads area. Our retail store is 20,000 square feet with 10,000 hand-made and machine-made rugs from around the world. We are a third generation rug dealer first established in 1936. From fine hand knotted traditional or transitional styles to fun and funky modern designs. In addition, we sell all of the National name brand rugs. Mark Gonsenhauser has a lifetime of rug experience and his knowledge of rugs is extensive. From South Africa to Switzerland, from Iran to Germany, from India to China and beyond, Mark has traveled the globe to study the art of rug weaving. His hands on experience learning the rug business took him to the rug making villages of Iran/Persia and then across Europe where he worked side by side with many famous antique rug dealers. While his travels as a young man were the cornerstone of his professional knowledge, he’ll tell you that his training really began as a boy working in his father’s rug store in Cape Town, South Africa which was established in 1936. As a third generation rug dealer, there is no one else in the area that has the knowledge and experience that he brings to his store. Mark Gonsenhauser is the only certified Oriental rug appraiser in the Hampton Roads area. As a large direct importer he searches for the best prices on the finest rugs by traveling twice a year to rug making countries such as India, Turkey, Morocco, China, Nepal, Pakistan, China and many others.
