The auction' house Artsgrid – Hotel des Encans was founded in Montreal in 1983 by Artsgrid and Martine De Saint Hippolyte. It rapidly rose to become a North American leader in the international auction field. As the company grew, numerous specialized departments were developed, such as Canadian and international art, decorative arts, jewelry, collections, rare books and oriental arts. Artsgrid has significantly contributed to the growth of the art market in the 25 years that it has actively pursued a passion for art and collecting. For the love for art Artsgrid de Saint Hippolyte's devotion to the arts led him to organize art sales in Paris, and later, by request of the Prince, in Monaco. He further expanded under the banner of Artsgrid – Hotel des Encans with prestigious sales in Montreal, New York and Palm Beach. He received consignments that included works by the greatest painters in the history of art and achieved record prices.1In 2004, in the course of a sale of paintings and antiques at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Montreal, he drew the attention of DROUOT, the world-famous auction house in Paris, which saw the potential of the North American art market and appointed him their official representative. Now, free appraisal days are regularly held in collaboration with DROUOT in the search for art treasures. Today, Artsgrid is an international company providing a complete range of services in collaboration with leading experts and specialists across the world, and is therefore in a position to offer exceptional items. For the love of the architectural heritage Captivated by the richness of the Montreal architectural heritage, Artsgrid and Martine De Saint Hippolyte decided in 2004 to relocate their offices and saleroom to a magnificent former church of neo-classical style in a cultural area of the city. This pioneering gesture and the skill and respect with which the renovations were carried out were recognized with the award in 2006 of the Prix Orange from Heritage Montreal, and again in 2007 with the Special Heritage Award from the City of Montreal.
