Antiquarian Books, Autographs & Documents

This is the middle section only of a much larger book auction that comprises 814 lots of books, maps, prints and related paper ephemera. The categories are Travel, British Topography, Natural History, Maps & Prints, Periodicals, Autographs & Ephemera, Antiquarian, Art & Bibliography and General Categories. The Autographs & Ephemera section featured here has besides bundles of old deeds, early Vampyr posters, British Guyana slavery list from 1823, good household account books, letters by first earl of Charlemont, Oskar Kokoschka, J.M. Barrie, Henry James and a letter about James Bond's eating of Jersey butter by Ian Fleming. There are further modern autograph items of the Mount Everest 1953 Expedition team, The Rolling Stones and Johnny Weissmuller. The antiquarian section is very strong on early printed and Continental works of literary, scientific, historical and theological interest, the earliest item being an early fifteenth-century manuscript of Lucan's Pharsalia. Please note that the first lot here, 309, will come under the hammer approx. two and a half to three hours after auction starts with lot 1 at 11am local time.
