Multi-Cultural Weekend! African, Asian, Europ
SESSION ONE:Fri., Nov 10th. Selling an amazing selection of important AFRICAN TRIBAL CULTURAL OBJECTS which were actually used in various ceremonies and not intended for exposure outside the specific community. Included are fantastic & important objects from Kenya, Ivory Coast, Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria, Zaire, Gabon, Angola, etc., etc. Certainly a unique opportunity to view and purchase rare antique and semi-antique African Art objects! We could find no record of an African sale of this magnitude and diversity! The non-academic and artistry of many of these objects is truly inspiring! They impress upon the viewer an appreciation for Folk Art in its truest form as well as a sense of mystery regarding the ceremonial nature of the object. It has occurred to us that these works of art will complement and enhance major American Folk Art collections. They offer a glimpse at the origins of some of the most important American Folk Art objects!
SESSION TWO: Sat, November 11th. Important CHINESE, OCEANIA & Other Fine ASIAN Art including ancient to 20th century. Exquisite jade and other stone carvings, rare gold plated stone carvings, 18th/19th c. figural wood carvings, masks, traveling shrines, ceremonial & utilitarian objects and ornamental items. Much of the Asian artwork comes to you from the estate of a nuclear physicist who enjoyed an incredible passion for studying and collecting Chinese artwork. This gentleman fled Nazi Germany before Hitler’s reign and being among the leading physicists in the world (he worked on the Manhattan project). He had access to and traveled in areas of the world that were closed to most travelers including China. Many of the objects were gifts to the physicist or items that he purchased from collections during his visits. We encourage you to look closely at each of these lots being offered as every item has its own story to tell and offers a fine investment opportunity.
