In 1919 active in Stuttgart avant-garde circles and had cofounded the artists' society �echte Gruppe along with with Willi Baumeister and Oscar Schlemmer. Studied with Matisse, Ledger, and Picasso. In the U.S. he earned his doctorate in fine arts from University of Iowa. Painted in Texas, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Taos, NM, Taxco, Mx. France, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Taught; Germany, Paris, Spain, Texas, Minneapolis Art Institute, and Minneapolis Art Students League.. He served as director of the Hans Hoffman Schule fur Bildende Kuntz, Munichand at the same time taught in Spain and St. Tropez, France. He also served as director of the Ecole de l?Epoque, Paris 1933 ?1934. Chairman of the art Department at Baylor University, TX. 1935-1949. Moved to US in 1934.
