The collection started in 1921 when the grandfather was the original owner and GM of the Checker Cab Company located next to Briggs Stadium in Detroit Michigan. The athletes would walk across the street to inquire about a taxi. As the dispatcher working in the office he was able to meet and collect several players’ autographs, most notable Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantel.
