GERMAN AERONAUTICAL MEDALS HERMAN GOERING
GERMAN AERONAUTICAL MEDALS HERMAN GOERING
Item Details
Description
German Academy of Aeronautical Research precision-struck membership badges in each of three grades: bronze, silver and gold. The bronze was issued to contributing associates, the silver to financial supporters, and the gold to actual members. The Academy was founded on July 24, 1936, with Herman Goering as its president. Initially, it focused on non military aeronautical research, but by 1938 most research was military oriented, focusing on aeronautical strategy, tactics, and engineering of the German war machine. These three examples of membership badges are documented from the estate of Charles White Linker, who was among those to interrogate Hermann Goering after surrender and capture by Allied forces. Linker later became a language professor at UGA, and has had in his possession several of Goering's personal effects. Of the mere 218 combined examples of the German Academy of Aeronautical Research Membership badges, only six were struck in silver, of which one of the six was issued. The silver example in this grouping is numbered 5, with the bronze and gold marked 8 and 65 respectively. Each badge number is marked in the middle back, over makers mark of an "N" inside "L" over "1700", and silver content marked "800". Each badge is flawlessly struck in the finest detail and quality. Documentation and provenance to Charles Linker is available from seller.
