Description
Western Han Dynasty Height 33 cm. The slander figure wearing long, winter robes bordered in red and flaring gracefully to a wide train in back where a longer white-painted under-robe trails from the splint hem, her head protected by a cowl and the right lapel of her robe folded over the left, her hands concealed within the muff held at her waist and the voluminous sleeves falling in deep folds, with traces of original white, red and black pigment. Compare a very similar standing figure illustrated by Sugiwara, Chinese Sculpture, Bronze and Jades in Japanese Collections, p-14 and included in The Japan Economics Newspaper Company exhibition of Ancient Chinese Sculpture, April-May 1960, Catalogue, Han figures 70 B; and another illustrated I Zhongguo Meishu Zhan, no. 1 Han dynasty pl. 88 A similar standing figure was sold in December 2, 1993 for over $ 20 000,- lot 214. See photo # 18. - The result of the thermoluminescence test (Tl. Nr 02B301120), is consistent with the dating of the item, Tang dynasty- ca. 2180 years old. Sampling in 2 different points.
