Description
Barometer with instructions for use, and reading weather. Vice Admiral Robert Fitzroy RN was a pioneering meteorologist. He was Captain of HMS Beagle on Darwin's famous voyage. Frame measures 37” tall, 8 1/2” wide, 2 1/2” deep (94.0 x 21.6 x 6.4 cm). The pointers are operated by brass knobs at the sides of the cabinet using a simple sliding system. No maker's mark. Contains mercury. This is a fragile instrument. It should be delivered by hand only. Estate of David Webber, historian and artist, Charlottetown, PEI.
