In 1973 Michael A. Russ became the cover artist for Art Direction Magazine and began photographing sequential erotic images for various publications such as Playboy, Vogue Hommes, Il and Photoreporter. In 1983 he exhibited large-format prints in Los Angeles with his TinTone technique which are chemically toned gelatin silver prints that are then hand-colored. The musician Tom Waits saw the exhibition and was impressed with Russ' work. He asked Russ to take the cover image for his Swordfishtrombones album in 1983. Born in Berlin, Russ has lived in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and Berlin and continues to live alternately in these cities. – Some light buckling, otherwise in very good condition.
