A very good carved wood dog double automaton cane

Item Details

Description

A very good carved wood dog double automaton cane. The dark wood "L" handle is 2 1/2" high and 4 3/4" to the side. It depicts a nicely detailed brown and black dog with a pointed nose. When a lever at the dog's throat is engaged, its red tongue shoots out and its glass eyes roll and change color. The shaft is thick exotic wood that terminates with a 3/4" metal ferrule. The overall length is 36 3/4" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps Continental, ca 1890, and it is a fine example meant to entertain and amuse. It is from the collection of Leo Delucchi. Estimate: $1000-$1500.
