ABOUT THE ARTIST
Raymond Thibesart (French, 1874-1968) was a figural and landscape painter. He was born in Troyes but grew up outside Paris in Enghien, where his first teacher was the Venezuelan impressionist painter Emile Boggio. He began his official studies at the Lycée Rollin in Paris and entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1894, and later the Académie Julian. Thibésart's early teachers were Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. Thibesart exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris where he was a medallist in 1922; at the Salon des Indépendants; and at the Salon d’Automne.
When Boggio settled in Vaux-sur-Seine in 1902, Thibesart followed and built a house there in 1903. He travelled extensively in Italy, Switzerland and Belgium and often painted along-side his friends Henri Martin and Emile Boggio in a subtle post-impressionist style.
