Henrik Wigstrom (1862-1923) Faberge letter opener, with enameled handle, nephrite jade blade, gilt decoration and ruby style stone inserts, marked "H.W." "88" and with the Faberge mark, in original Faberge wood box letter opening measuring 11.25"L. Wigstrom, Henrik (1862-1923) born in Ekenäs, Finland, a Finnish work master who became head work master upon Michael Perchin's death in 1903, thereby assuming responsibility for the imperial Easter eggs. Wigström was particularly adept at designing cigarette cases, frames and figurines, which were produced in large number during the firm's most productive years. Wigström's style is characterized by echoes of the Louis XVI and Empire (style) periods. The metal standard in zolotniks: for silver 84 and 88 (or 875/1000 and 916/1000 parts of silver, making 88 slightly below sterling in silver content).
