Description
GEORGES MANZANA PISSARRO (1871-1961)
Study of an Old Man and Female Heads
Pencil on paper
9 x 9 ⅝ inches (25 x 21.5 cm)
Framed 9 ⅞ x 9 ⅝ inches (23 x 24.4 cm)
Signed Manzana Pissarro lower right
Georges Manzana Pissarro was Camille Pissarro's second son, and his early work was very much influenced by the teaching of his father. However, from 1907 to 1925 Manzana’s work changed dramatically with his interest shifting from the French countryside to more exotic, oriental and North African subjects, particularly the female form and scenes inspired by mythology.
Georges Manzana Pissarro moved to Casablanca, Morocco in 1939 at the outbreak of World War II, not returning to France until 1947, and made many studies in watercolour, crayon and pencil of the local people, mainly women, capturing the atmosphere and colours of North Africa.
This work will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Lélia Pissarro.
United Kingdom VAT of 20% applies to this work, unless bought and shipped to a buyer from outside the European Union.
