Description
Tibet, 17th Century An important and finely made gilt bronze cast probably portraying the eleventh Karmapa, Yeshe Dorje (1676-1702). Seated on a thick cushion, finely chased with vegetal motifs his headwear distinguishes his high rank, it is decorated with a double Vajra and a half moon. He rests his right hand in his lap and holds a precious stone of thought and the left points downwards in a gesture of bhūmisparśamudrā. Magisterially realised garments decorated with floral motifs and the cloak that covers his shoulders presents thick ribbing on the reverse. the presence of the cushion as a base may well indicate that it is a representation of a life cast. h 11,5 cm
