NANTAN IRON METEORITE. China, Lihu town, Ladan/Bayan area, 1516 AD. Coarse octohedrite meteorite, 92.5% Fe, 6.96% Ni. 1.5 x 3.25 x 5.3 inches. 1 lb 14.oz. Quite a large example. This fall is recorded in Chinese archives in Nantan as follows: "Zengde 11th year (1516 AD), summertime in May, stars fell down from a northwest direction, five or six-fold long, waving like snakes and dragons, bright like lightning, then they disappeared in seconds." The remains of this meteorite were discovered in 1958. A rare example of a documented very early meteorite fall. Comes with information sheet. From an old collection has crumbled into pieces as Nantan usually do thus very cheap. A dealer could sell some of the pieces for near our price!
