This lot is a 1940 Bert Bell Dual Signed Philadelphia Eagles Payroll Check. The check is dated July 24, 1940, and is signed by Bell in his full legal name on front: De Benneville Bell. The check, made out to himself, is then signed again on its reverse, as Bert Bell. Bert Bell was the original owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, purchasing the franchise in 1933. Bell would later become one of the most influental commissioners of the NFL, leading over the growing league from 1946 until his death in 1959. The check includes an auction house Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
