416. SIR FREDERICK G. BANTING (1891-1941). Canadian physiologist and Nobel laureate as one of the co-discoverers of insulin. Signed postcard with small quarter-length magazine photo, 2"x2", above. Darkly penned in blue ink as "Sincerely, F. G. Banting, University of Toronto." Light soiling; else near Fine. Along with his assistant, medical student CHARLES H. BEST (1899-1978), he started work at the University of Toronto that led to the momentous discovery, furthering their scientific work at the Banting and Best Institute, each receiving many awards and honors during their years of work. Best has signed a University of Toronto memorandum sheet, 5½"x4¼", Toronto, May 3, 1971. "Autographed with pleasure for Wendy Jan Schofield. Charles H. Best."
