Item Details

Description

Collection includes letters written on stationary, envelopes and stamps. Some of the envelopes have interesting graphics including a drawing of Jefferson Davis being hung, and one of him being smacked by the hand of Dred Scott, and one of the devil sitting on a bale of cotton. One of the letters was sent from Bamwell Plantation in IS. S.C. dated 1862. We took the time to transcribe a few of the letters, not all of them. Two of the envelopes say "The innocent cause of all the trouble."
