An 18th century Burmese Shan Buddha of teakwood (above) has a beautiful serene face with eyes lowered and slight smile with an almost childlike innocence. The hole at the back would have held Buddhist relics. The 2-foot-tall figure is expected to sell for $3,500-$4,000.
From India comes a 22K gold repoussé jadaibillai hair ornament (below) depicting Lord Krishna dancing on a five-headed naga. The disk, which measures 2 5/8 inches in diameter, was made in the 19th century in Bangalore, Karnataka (est. $4,000-$6,000).
Also from India is a 19th century saag dowry necklace. The 16-inch-long necklace is composed of 22K repoussé gold pendants with lac resin fill (est. $3,500-$4,000).
Two large Han Dynasty polychrome vases with lids carry a $3,500-$4,000 estimate.
From the Southeast Asia island nation of Brunei comes a 20-inch bronze tajaur, a covered jar, decorated with stylized birds, lizards, dragons, lions, fish and floral designs. Brunei craftsmen were famous for casting bronze cannons, kettles and gongs but seldom jars. An example of this high quality indicates the wealth and status of the original owner (est. $3,500-$4,000).
Jasper52 will conduct this 76-lot auction of Asian art and antiques on Thursday, Dec. 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.
