Item Details
Description
Finely forged blade with the hammer raised (coined) front and back and beveled edge. Pierced with three holes accentuated with sunburst markings. Wood haft carved with a human face with scarified cheeks and slanted eyes, perhaps representing a corpse. In addition to their reputation as slavers and cannibals, the Songye were known as excellent woodcarvers and metal workers.
