Joe Perry (NC, 1893-1981), Redhead
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood, incised MLM.
Length 18 in.
Perry was a professional waterman who spent his entire life in Kitty Hawk. He carved several stands of decoys in the 1930s. His decoys have the forward crest on the heads like the John Austin birds but generally have longer bodies.
From the hunting rig of Marvin Lemay Midgett (1884-1971). Midgett is well known for making lighter weight canvas over wire decoys.
