Historical Description
Created in 1968, this original color etching and aquatint with carborundum and cement imprint is hand signed by Joan Miro (1893-1983) in pencil in the lower right margin. Printed by Art Adrien Maeght, Paris and numbered 36/75 in pencil in the lower left margin on Mandeure rag paper with deckle edges; published by Maeght Editeur, Paris.
Dramatically textured, Miro depicts an abstracted profile of a human figure. Reminiscent of Picasso's abstract female sculptures, this image is characterized by a large nose which interrupts the graceful slope of the forehead. The exploding colors in the background add a sense of spontaneity and joviality, enlivening the clearly delineated forms. Form joins form or is born in the night of boreal dreams. Erratic constellations: work which maybe were, or were not carried out, in the anteroom of the sketch, on in the unattained kingdom.
