A rare early war Confederate railroad pass. The pass itself is printed "Pass Free" and is specified "for relinquishment of 'Right of Way' for Mr. W.F. Colcock and signed by H.S. Haines. Colcock was the Collector of Customs for the U.S. Government until secession when he was given the same position in the newly-formed Confederate government. The pass was given to him, in part, because the railroad went through his property. The railway would prove vital for moving Confederate troops across the south.

Condition: two dark spots, even toning, writing is excellent - dark and clear.
