A poor and utterly unknown girl from the East End, Klinghoffer rose to prominence at a young age when her first exhibition at the Hampstead Gallery took the artistic world by storm in 1919. Painter of portraits, particularly children. Born 18 May 1900 of Polish-Jewish parents near Lemberg, Austria, and brought to London as a baby. Studied at the Central School and at the Slade School 1919-21. Member of the N.E.A.C. 1933. Married Joseph W. F. Stoppelman, writer, in 1926; lived in Holland and France and from 1939 in the United States. Has traveled widely in Mexico and Europe.
