Samuel F. B. Morse Autograph Letter to Aide-de-Camp of 9th Duke of Devonshire
ALS

An attractive autograph letter signed by Samuel Morse, signed at bottom and again ?Morse? in text, one page, 4? x 6?, Poughkeepsie, New York, March 11, 1854 to Vivian Francis Bulkeley-Johnson. One mounting trace to verso, otherwise beautifully penned and centered ? ideal for display!

Morse writes, in part: ??The note of Mr. N. B. Morse reached me only this morning. I enclose what you have requested??.

Vivian Francis Bulkeley-Johnson (1891-1968), affectionately known as ?B. J.? was an aide-de-camp to the Governor of Canada Victor Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire. He also served in the Imperial War Cabinet and Air Ministry.

By 1854, Morse?s telegraph devices had taken off, and there were 23,000 miles of telegraph wire in operation through out the United States.

Morse?s correspondent might be Nathan B. Morse (1799-1886), and attorney from New York apparently not a relation to Samuel Morse.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
