An Egyptian turquoise faience Ushabti of Ipethemetes with crisp hieroglyphics in a vertical panel, H 15 cm
The front panel with hieroglyphics read: 'The illuminated Osiris, Ipethemetes born of Hathoremakhet true of voice.' The female person's name, Ipethemetes, means 'the goddess Ipet is her mistress'. The hippopotamus goddess Ipet was worshipped as the mother of Osiris in Thebes. Ipethemetes represented the twelfth-month goddess in the ancient Egyptian calendar. The personal name indicates that the ushabti is from Thebes. The name Hathoremakhet means 'Hathor is on the horizon'.
Late Period 27th/30th Dynasty 554-332 BC.
Provenance: Belgian private collection, acquired from a German private collection before 1980.
